There is a bakawan village situated on the banks of river Narmada in its Khargone district. This village is located 25 km away from Kasrawad tehsil of Khargone district.
Shivling is found only in Bakawan village in the whole world. Which is famous even abroad. Narmadeshwar Shivling is made of stones extracted from the bed of Narmada. Which is consider a holy stone. On keeping those in hand, we feel positive energy.
This Shivling is the form of Lord Bholenath himself. Due to the fast flow of the river Narmada, big stones collide with each other and take the shape of an oval form of Shivling.

It is a story of ancient times. There was a demon named Banasur who use to worship Bholenath. Banasura was a demon of the clan. But Bhaktaraj, being of Prahlad’s clan, had faith in God.
Once Banasura did severe penance to Lord Shiva Shambhu, which pleased Lord Bhole Nath, and asked Banasura to ask for a boon. Then Banasura started saying to Bhole Nath that you give me Shivling. Only then Bhole Nath built the Shivling.
And Banasur also asked Bhole Nath this boon that you will always remain in the form of this Shivling.
Then Bhole Nath was please and said that I will always sit in the form of this Shivling. Banasura was happy and took the Shivling with him.
And started worshiping him by making him sit on a mountain named Amarkantak. Once this Shivling fell from the mountain and started flowing in the river. The river in which it started flowing was Narmada river.
Because only Mother Narmada has arrived from Amarkantak mountain. And the Shivling was brought by Banasura. That’s why it was name Banaling and because of flowing in Narmada, it is call Narmadeshwar Shivling.
